The sixth edition of Ground Zero Festival that came to a wonderful close. Starting at 12:00 hours in the afternoon and rocking on until 23:00 hours at night the Dutch seismographs went deep into the red. The earth shaking outdoor festival went into a new phase this year and for the first time in her history took place under the burning sun. Thanks and respect to all those that made the sixth edition of Ground Zero Festival a truly unforgettable experience.

Peter Nitschke has been invited to the Netherlands many many times from his native land Germany. With his close ties to the Dutch empire The Third Movement, Stormtrooper has build up a long discography through institutes like Industrial Strength, TTM, Deathchant and Audiogenic.

How do you think you will experience your day at Ground Zero 2011?
I think the first daytime Ground Zero will be a really nice experience, as the party area is awesome. Kinda like a carnival. Although I liked partying in the woods at night, it will be even better at nightfall. So I’m gonna be there early, chill at the sea, have a fantastic party-day, and go crazy till late at night.

What can the crowd expect of your performance?

What separates Ground Zero from the rest?
It's the atmosphere in total. The sea, the woods, the carnival-like attractions... it's a different vibe than all the other festivals. And the lineup is just stunning.

Martin Damm is a key figure in the world of Frenchcore, Terror and Extreme Hardcore. A man that was there when these hardest forms of Hardcore were created. Speedfreak is a true hero of the underground that has also released tracks on the Dutch pearl Mokum Records.

How do you think you will experience your day at Ground Zero 2011?
So far I have played on every Ground Zero and I’m proud that I’m part of it this year. Each year Ground Zero is one of the highlights for me.

What can the crowd expect from your performance?
I will prepare a special live-set for this year’s Ground Zero, combining my latest releases with some of my classic Oldschool-tracks.

What separates Ground Zero from the rest?
I especially like the atmosphere and the diversity in styles.

We are on the eve of the rebirth of the rawest festival of the Netherlands, as Saturday, June 11 will be the day. Then Ground Zero Festival: Rebirth becomes real.

The ‘Rebirth’ of Ground Zero doesn’t just mean a fresh start at one of the most beautiful festival locations of the country. The volume in the various areas will be turned up a notch between 12.00 hours and 23.00 hours.

Tickets
Tickets for Ground Zero are still available at www.groundzerofestival.com. For off-line tickets you can go to any Primera shop in the Netherlands. Check www.primera.nl/7/vestigingen for all the addresses of all Primera shops.

Time-table
The entire time-table can be found at www.groundzerofestival.com. When logging into the site with your Facebook, Hyves or Ground Zero account, you can quickly and easily set-up and print out your own, personal time-table.

Weather
It could warm, so bring some sun-protection. You can take in some shade at one of the various indoor areas.

Lockers
However, you can never be sure with the weather. Bring a jacket or sweater in case the weather turns. You can easily store these in the Lockerbox lockers that can be rented on the terrain for €6. You can rent your locker now at www.lockerbox.nl/rent_a_locker.php.

Entrance
A strict “Zero Tolerance” policy is set by the municipality. This means that both soft- and hard drugs are not permitted on the terrain. The police will check for this at the

Hardstyle (Mainstage)

This year the Ground Zero Mainstage will again arise from the waters of Area Bussloo and fire off its decibels over the entire beach. This time the focus will be on Hardstyle with performances by such masters as Showtek, Zany, D-Block & S-te-Fan and Tatanka.

Abyss & Judge will be present as well. They’ve performed at Ground Zero before, but this will be the first time they will take on the Mainstage. Classic tracks like “Hardstyle Revolution” and “Rapture” make them one of the most-played Hardstyle producers in the world. With performances all over Europe, this is one stage sensation you cannot afford to miss.

Especially for Ground Zero they’ve produced an ass-kicking Mainstage anthem which we present to you below. We also give you an interview with the guys in which they talk about what they are planning to do at Ground Zero.

Niels and Pepijn hooked up in 2008 to create Frequencerz, a Hardstyle formation with which they build up a loyal following in the underground scene. During Ground Zero they will present raw interpretation of the Hardstyle sound in the Raw Hardstyle, hosted by Theracords area.

What do you expect from your day at Ground Zero 2011?
It’s going to be a great day with all these people we know and the different styles of music that will bring this day together in a beautiful way. We will be present all day at the festival and enjoy all kinds of music. Hopefully it will be a sunny day with a good party-vibe!

What can the crowd expect from your performance?
We’ve got a couple of new tracks ready for the summer that we will present to the crowd in combination with some older tracks from us and other artists. We’ve never played Ground Zero before so will be having a lot of fun in the Raw Hardstyle area. We will be the only Fusion Records artists in the Raw Hardstyle area so we will rocking the place with some old but also some new Fusion tracks!

What sets Ground Zero apart from the rest?
Ground Zero is festival for all the harder styles and it will be definitely be hard this year. With a terrific Hardstyle and Raw Hardstyle line-up there is enough reason for every Hardstyle lover out there to show up. For all the other harder styles, the best artists have been invited to come. It is a complete festival with something for everyone.

Last Tickets

The last tickets for Ground Zero Festival: Rebirth will be available at the entrance of the festival on Saturday, June 11.

The tickets will be sold at the a special box office next to the entrance. Tickets will cost €50,- a piece and can be paid for by cash or Maestro PIN.

Pre-sale
The tickets at the door do not influence the pre-sale. Tickets for Ground Zero can still be ordered at the websites www.groundzerofestival.com, www.paylogictickets.nl and www.udc.nl/tickets.

Tickets are also available at all Primera shop in the Netherlands. Check www.primera.nl (in Dutch) for all the addresses of all Primera shops.

Extortionate Prices
A number of websites sell tickets for Ground Zero Festival: Rebirth for much higher prices than the normal ticket price. These so called sell-through have a very bad reputation and the organization advises not to buy from these vendors.

The same goes for possible ticket scalpers hanging around the festival terrain. Every year a large number of tickets sold by these on- and offline scalpers are forged. Avoid disappointment and throwing away your money and make sure you get your tickets at one of the official pre-sale addresses.

This veteran from Rotterdam is known as one of the world’s leading Classics artists. With a three-deck set-up she turn every event into a party of happy recognition. With her original choice of records and refined mixing skills lay the indestructible foundation of her nostalgic set at Ground Zero.

What do you expect from your day at Ground Zero?
I’m hoping for some nice weather and sunshine, as we will be doing a daytime festival this year. I’m also very excited about all the decorations because I know from previous years that this is always insane.

What can the crowd expect from your set?
Oldschool madness with a three-deck set-up.

What sets Ground Zero apart from the rest?
I don’t know. I’m there for the third time and all those times it was a really great time and it looked amazing.

Coen Oudejans - a.k.a. Intractable One - is a Dutch Hardstyle DJ/Producer that will show his rawest side at Ground Zero. Memeber of the groups Avio and Bazz Impant and one of the fastest rising stars at the hard frontlines.

What are your expectations of your day at Ground Zero?
This is the first time Ground Zero is being held during the day, so I’m definetly going to enjoy the sun that will definetly be shining that day. As for the rest, I’ll be wandering over the entire terrain, checking out the acts I’d like to see.

What can the people expect from your performance?
Together with DJ Phrantic from Switzerland I’ll be wrecking the Raw Hardstyle stage for an hour. Tough as nails Dutch beats that will be destoryed by a Swiss army knife.

What kind of a festival is Ground Zero?
Ground Zero differntiates itself with a varied and alternative line-up. Add to that the beautifull location at the lake and there are reasons aplenty to throw a big party.

The darkest place under the sun will be Ground Zero’s Industrial area. The Industrial sound at the 2011 Rebirth Edition will be brought by a highly acclaimed hosting partner. The massive Ground Zero Hardcore area will be louder than ever this year. With a dead hot line-up of immortal Hardcore heroes like Paul Elstak vs Darrien Kelly and Ruffneck, the schizophrenic battle that’s Dione vs E-Noid, the combined destructive forces of the Italian quartet Tommyknocker, Unexist, System 3 & Mad Dog, the U.S. underground invasion by Forsaken Is Dead and Delta 9, the brutal British force of The Soundwreck and Ground Zero DJ Contest winners Viruz & the Pacifier.

Every artist will go all out to prove that they deserve their spot this Hardcore stage. The live performance by System 3 will also be something special, as he will premiere a number of new tracks that he has been working hard on in his Italian studio. Dutch thunder-God Dano visited the man in his habitat and recorded the following footage. There’s also a good chance that Dano will by joining Piero on stage during the System 3 live performance.

Catatonic Overload is the unholy Dutch-French alliance between Tim Oelers and Marc Scheeren. With Theracords as their musical base, it is a given that they will deliver Hardstyle with balls of steel.

What do you expect to experience at Ground Zero?
We expect the biggest day of our musical careers. Ground Zero is a festival that perfectly matches our interest and we are delighted to be a part of this. Outside of our own set we are going to really enjoy all the great artist, but also the wonderful location of Bussloo. And, we hope, while enjoying some nice sunshine.

What can the crowd expect from your performance?
People can expect a set that builds, that’s hard and is energetic with a shitload of our productions. We are now in the middle of releasing 7 new tracks, including 6 solo-tracks and one collaboration with Geck-o. We will also bring a special Ground Zero edit of an existing track that has made many a crowd go wild. And we have also a surprising remix in the wings. Also, some great tracks from the past will be passing by. In short, we will rock the Theracords area!

What kind of festival is Ground Zero?
Ground Zero to us is a special festival, because the music takes centre stage. Each year UDC and Multigroove know to excite us with a diverse line-up that ensures we will hear some very surprising sets. Also, somehow Ground Zero attracts a great party crowd. Bonzai Classic Trax

The Belgian live-act Bonzai Classic Trax doesn't use a record bag as much as a treasure chest. During the '90's, Bonzai grew into a worldwide label of quality and is still seen as one of the best European labels ever.

What do you expect from your day at Ground Zero?
"Since it has been turned into a day festival, I think there will be a better chance for me to finally see all the areas. I never got to that during the previous editions. Most likely, though, you'll find me in the classics area.

What can the crowd expect from your performance?
"It will be a totally new set, one that will last for 60 instead of 30 minutes, as happened in previous years. You should still see it as a DJ set, but one with live keyboards, loops and samples. Exciting!!!

What differentiates Ground Zero from the rest?
"It's a lot of fun that it's now a festival in the daytime. With some nice weather and having it a little bit earlier in the year, the could be some serious fun."

The New York giant Delirium achieved his legendary status in the Netherlands in the '90's when a stage dive went bad and resulted in several broken bones. Delirium when be cracking bones on the dance-floor once again with a set filled with 'golden oldies' in the Ground Zero Early Hardcore area.

How do you think you will experience your day at Ground Zero 2011? This will be my third appearance at Ground Zero and I am three times as excited this year! I already know what an amazing festival that it is and I can't wait! The festival seems to get better and better every year. I am really looking forward to the Rebirth in 2011!

What can the crowd expect of your performance?
The crowd can expect me to ROCK the Early Rave area this year. They can expect one hour of non-stop mixing, scratching and DJ trickery… Praying Mantis Style! Be prepared for the cricket to get wicked!

What separates Ground Zero from the rest? Ground Zero is an absolutely top quality festival and I am honored to be a part of it. The whole production of this festival is outstanding from the stages to the artists and from the location to the sound systems. Absolutely amazing. If you have not visited a Ground Zero festival yet, you have no idea what you are missing. Make it a point to come and be a part of Ground Zero history on June 11, 2011.

June, 11 is coming closer and closer and the buzz surrounding Ground Zero is becoming stronger and stronger. This week three new Ground Zero radio specials will be hitting the airwaves and bitstreams.

Hardcore Radio: 25/5 @ 19.00 hours
During Distortion on Hardcore Radios, DJ’s Ruffneck, Dione and E-Noid will be in studio from 19.00 hours till 21.00 hours for a short talk and some big Hardcore sounds.

Even when one festivals brings all the harder styles together, only one can be the hardest. The Frenchcore / Terror area isn’t only the fastest of them all, it is also one of the most internationally oriented areas. A ruthless line-up brings Ground Zero the best from the Terror Underground of not just France and the Netherlands, but also Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and even Australia.

DJ Fight and TimeTwister headed into the studio together for a rough and tough Ground Zero Anthem.

Hailing from Harlingen, Sean Grotenboer is a very experienced MC, even if he’s just 21 years old. The master of ceremony has a nicely filled party calendar and will also be bringing his best skills to Ground Zero.

What do you expect from your day at Ground Zero?
I expect Ground Zero to be a totally new experience. For the first time, it will take place during the daytime and to me that’s an exciting new experience. Last year I visited Ground Zero for the first time and it was also my first festival by night. So I’m very curious what to expect this year.

What is your best memory of Ground Zero?
I’ve only visited once, that was last year, but then the whole festival was one unique experience.

What kind of festival is Ground Zero?
Ground Zero is a festival that brings a very varied line-up, unlike any other. Known and unknown names, but also new talents that get a shot. This year talents could send in demos and earn a place in the line up. Things like that are unique for a festival as big as Ground Zero.

Ground Zero keeps on pounding. This week we have two brilliant Hardstyle sets elected for you by Josh & Wesz (Monday, May 23) and 2-Sides (Wednesday, May 25). On Thursday we give free reign to the Lord of Thunder and present Paul Elstak's Hardcore set that he performed at the Ground Zero Mainstage.

The week after we keep the pedal to the metal with two sweet Early Hardstyle sets by Jimmy The Sound (Monday, May 30) and Super Marco May (Friday, June 3). The present Hardstyle sound will be brought by Avio (Wednesday, June 1).

Every set is being broadcast at 21.00 hours at night and 13.00 hours the following day.

Ground Zero Overdose
Every Saturday and Sunday night we go all out at 21.00 hours with the Ground Zero Overdose featuring all the sets from the previous weeks. After this final broadcast they are locked and boarded into the Ground Zero archive.

A festival needs to know what they’re getting themselves into when they let the Rotterdam Terror Corps take the stage. However, this won’t be the first time that Ground Zero has decided to unleash the strength of the Corps onto its visitors. This year they will bring a not-to-miss live performance to the Early Hardcore area.

What do you guys expect from your day at Ground Zero?
Enjoying the nice weather together and making sure that our drunk MC doesn’t fall into the lake.

What is your craziest Ground Zero memory?
The craziest one was when there was a large police check for alcohol at the end of an edition. We made a rather young and experience police officer believe that his breathalyzer made a high pitched noise whenever it was blown into. In fact, it was Distortion whistling in the back. I think that guy still doesn’t understand what was going on.

What kind of festival is Ground Zero?
A cozy group of craziness with different musical style and an always surprising line-up.

After he started his MC career in 2006, MC Rudis has become one of Holland’s best MC’s thanks to a lot hard work and dedication. Rudis will focus his skills during Ground Zero: Rebirth towards the Raw Hardstyle, hosted by Theracords area to make sure it will be explosive to the max.

What do you expect from your day at Ground Zero?
I’m expecting an adrenaline rush through my entire body all day long, with this beautiful location combined with the great music and nice weather. It just has to be fantastic day! I’m expecting a banger, one I will think back to for quite some time. I’m really looking forward to it and can hardly wait.

What can the crowd expect from your performance?
Rhymes to start of the DJ set right, rhymes to motivate the crowd that much more to join me and the DJ and blow the roof of this m**********r and raps to really add something to the DJ performance
The challenge is make people believe the raps are part of the music. What is also think is very important is that a MC knows when he doesn’t have to add anything and I will do that as well.

Like a chainsaw Chain Reaction has been tearing through dance-floors lately with his recognizable, raw style. Someone who just had to be part of the Raw Hardstyle by Theracords area. A festival that the man himself is looking forward to as well, since it takes place near his hometown.

What do you expect from your day at Ground Zero?
Ground Zero has been a special event for years and is one of the highlights of the festival season. Many different music styles and a lot of artists! I’m expecting a unique atmosphere in the woods near Bussloo!

What can the crowd expect from your performance?
I’ll spin at the Theracords stage this year, a unique label in the scene. The crowd can expect a real Chain Reaction set! Hardstyle with a rough edge. This will fit perfectly with the Theracords style, progressive and hard! I’ve also been spending a lot of time in the studio creating new tracks for our label Minus is More! Ground Zero, beware of some new Minus is More style!

What differentiates Ground Zero from the rest?
To me, Ground Zero is very special! I’m from the region so I have the home field advantage. That makes it extra wicked. There will also be a very special vibe at the Theracords stage! Many talented artists bringing many different sounds! Be there!

Degos & Re-Done have been setting fire to dance floors with their raw and unapologetic Raw Hardstyle sound. They were quickly welcomed into the Theracords family and this summer will see their meteoric rise, where Ground Zero: Rebirth will be their first major festival.

How do you think you will experience your day at Ground Zero 2011?
Well, it’s gonna be our first big event. So I think we’ll be stunned by all the decoration, big stages, massive crowd and of course the HARD sound. This is going to be remembered for a long time.

What can the crowd expect?
What they always can expect from us. A very hard set filled with pure rawness and tunes that don’t get played that often.
What we like most about our sets is that we only play what we want hear. That gives us the perfect boost when we’re performing which makes us go nuts big time.

What separates Ground Zero from the rest?
Well, that’s simple! We got ourselves a Theracords stage with some of the rawest names in the industry! We won’t hold back, we will pound your head, ears, face and maybe even your brains! So it has all the right ingredients for a successful party!

This unique area, located near the eat, drink & chill part of the festival features DJ’s with an incredible track record like HQ legend JP, Nachtboetiek grand dragon Spider, the legendary Bonzai Classic Trax, Paul van der Vooren also called DJ Pavo, the internationally highly regarded Miss Monica and underground rumblings of Merv.

Not too be missed in this line-up is Dr Rude. Born in the Netherlands in 1982, this man has always had a refreshing view on the harder styles, able to combine Belgian Beats with raw Dutch Hardcore in new and exciting ways. We talked to him about this area in the following interview.

After missing last year, he’s back again. British excentrique and dance fanatic Mark EG knows how to sweep up a crowd like no other. This year he will be doing a team-up with DJ Thera in the Raw Hardstyle, hosted by Theracords area. Something he is looking forward with great enthusiasm.

How do you think you will experience your day at Ground Zero 2011?
I’ve got gigs on the Friday so we will be flying in on the day of the party and getting there as quickly as possible! Of course I will be at the Theracords stage supporting my friends but I’ve been playing hardcore techno again recently, so I really must see Unexist and The Speed Freak! My good friends Pet Duo are also playing so I will definitely be at the front of the speakers to bang my head to the hard techno! See you there everyone and keep it RAW!!!

What can the crowd expect of your performance?
I’m super happy to be playing with DJ Thera at his Theracords stage, especially as we both get on so well and have a very similar vision for our music. This stage will be showcasing the new, raw sound of hardstyle and as I’ve always tried over the last 20 years to be at the front of new music, there’s no better stage for me to do this! As usual, I’ll probably be destroying a few items (including body parts) in the process. Bring on the dirty raw beats!

This year I am looking forward to represent my sound on the DJAX stage, at Ground Zero Festival 2011. Since I first began DJ’ing, back in my home town of Adelaide, South Australia in the early 1990's, Djax-Up-Beats has been a huge influence on my life, and my musical tastes. It is an honor for me to come now at the stage in my artistic life, where I can perform alongside and represent such a landmark figure as Miss Djax, in the dance music industry, and at such a legendary event as Ground Zero. I could not be happier!

I think this will reflect on my session during the day, and I will give it everything I can, so you can expect to hear an energetic mix up of groovy, fat ass, bassed up, tribal pumping hard ass techno!

Ground Zero Debut
This will be my first time to come to Ground Zero festival, although I have heard many reports from fellow DJ’s and party people, who happily tell me of their past experiences, and how great and exciting festival it is. How do you think you will experience your day at Ground Zero 2011?
I'm really looking forward for this "daylight" edition of Ground Zero Festival! It's the fifth time I’ll perform there and I think it will be a blast again.

What is your best/craziest memory of Ground Zero?
I think 2008 and 2009 edition, I performed as Speedkore live with my guitarist and I felt really positive response from the people. It was not a "normal" live act performance, but more like a concert.

What kind of festival is Ground Zero in your opinion?
One of the best electronic music festivals! The location is nice and particular and the organization always has a great setup. I'm sure this year it will be the same, during the day the ambience of the place will be much more suggestive!

HARD TRANCE AREA

The rise of Hard Trance was practically simultaneous to the development of the more euphoric Trance sound in the mid ’90’s. But where Trance went commercial in the ’00’s, Hard Trance remained an underground affair with a small but fiercely loyal fan base. Lately, there have been many interesting developments in the Hard Trance scene, which inspired UDC’s and Multigroove’s decision to feature a special Hard Trance area at this year’s Ground Zero Festival: Rebirth.

In the Hard Trance area you will find several Bussloo veterans like Scot Project, Proteus, Fausto and A*S*Y*S. Making their Ground Zero debuts will be the Italian thunder-gods Andrea Montorsi and Sa.Vee.Oh, who rarely perform in the Netherlands. Local boy Russo, signed to Marcel Woods renowned Musical Madness label, will also pop his GZ Cherry. Finally, from the U.K. the combined forces of Phil York and Joey V will bring the typical U.K. Hard sounds.

Joey V, also delivered a spectacular Ground Zero Hard Trance anthem. In the following interview, we speak with him about this track and this special area at Ground Zero.

Ground Zero Radio is kicking it hard this week. First we welcome DJ Luna to breath new life in the Early Hardstyle sound, we have DJ Dozer firing up the Present Hardstyle fire and go into full blown madness with the Master of Disaster Noisekick.

Luna
One of the biggest and most popular DJ’s at the dawn of the Hardstyle era. Luna was so big he got his own One Man Show in the massive Gelredome arena. These days, Luna has broadened his sound with a lot of Techno influences, but during Ground Zero last year, the man went back to the heyday of Hardstyle and delivered as masterpiece of a set.
Luna’s set will be broadcasted on Wednesday, May 11 at 21.00 hours. The day after it will broadcasted one more time at 13.00 hours. The set will also be included in the Ground Zero Overdose on Saturday- and Sundaynight.

Dozer
The coming of Hardstyle thoroughly shook up the life of Tony van Boxtel. He ended his career as DJ Tony, and reinvented himself as DJ Dozer and quickly delivered a string of classic Hardstyle tracks including “The Church of the Darkside” together with Michel “Donkey Rollers” Pollen. His set is Hardstyle as it should be: rough, fierce and invigorating.
Dozer’s set will be broadcast on Tuesday, May 10 at 21.00 hours and will be repeated on Wednesday, May 11 at 13.00 hours. It will also be a part of the Ground Zero Overdose on Saturday- and Sundaynight.

The hard as nails combination of Cut A Kaos and S.I.K.K. Project will perform in the Frenchcore / Terror area and is the ultimate proof that Ground Zero has one of its most internationally oriented line-ups of the year. S.I.K.K. Project has Jamaica in its passport while Cut A Kaos is a God of Hardcore in his home country of Switzerland.

How are you preparing for Ground Zero 2011?
“I'll have to get up damn early, so I do not miss my flight to Amsterdam. I had planned except my set anything special on that day. Many acts of interest to me!”
